Our Farmers Box program allows community members to purchase shares in our farm’s harvest that season. This allows the community to have fresh veggies each week as well as elevates our farm's burden with upfront costs and expenses. Our season is for roughly 12 weeks, depending on the spring and fall. Farmers Box members will receive a box each week of the in-season produce. As the season progresses each week's produce and quantity will fluctuate depending on what is ready for harvest. Our farm is producing over 20 types of veggies and each week you will get what’s ready for harvest!

How the Program Works:

There are full share boxes or family size (feeds approximately a family of 4) and half share boxes (feeds approximately a couple). You can also get a double share which is two full share boxes as a discount (which would feed a large family or many hungry teenagers!). Once you determine what size is best for you, you will be assigned two wooden, reusable veggie boxes. These boxes are numbered and stay with you throughout the season, swapping your boxes with us every week. There are two pick-up locations, Horsefly & 150 Mile House (on the farm). Once you determine what pick up location you would like for the season, we will bring your box of veggies there each week and you will leave your empty box with us. For more information please read the full terms and conditions before signing up. To learn more about the program go to howtocountry.farm

By purchasing a Farmers Box Subscription you agree to abide by the following terms:

  1. The Farmers Box program includes one box of seasonal produce every week roughly 12-weeks.
  2. Subscriptions are non-refundable.
  3. The harvest fluctuates throughout the season on types of veggies ready for harvest as well as how much. The beginning and end of the season usually have less veggies and the middle has lots! The box includes a share of all the different types produce from the farm.
  4. Farming out in the Cariboo comes with its challenges due to the freak frosts and hail storms and therefore sometimes there can be a crop failure. If a specific type of veggie fails that year, all the Farmers Box members share the loss of the crop with the farmer and that veggie is excluded from the program. Thankfully this is rare and usually is not a problem!
  5. You will be assigned a numbered set of wooden HTC produce boxes during the program. Each week the produce will come in 1 box and the previous week’s box must be returned at time of pick up. These boxes are the possession of How to Country Farm.
  6. A refundable deposit of $100 will be charged for the 2 boxes. Should the boxes be damaged or not returned at the end of the season we will not refund the deposit. Damage includes spoilage stains inside the box, please see care instructions to prevent spoilage. Normal ware is acceptable. Should only one box be damaged or missing you will get back half your deposit at the end of the season.
  7. If the previous week’s box is not returned each week, we will be unable to provide you with the next week’s produce. If we are unable to obtain contact with you within 2 weeks after it is missing, your subscription will be cancelled. Any remaining prepaid portion of the subscription will not be refunded including the box deposit.
  8. If you need to skip a week, you’re welcome to have someone else pick it up that week, otherwise let us know ahead of time and we can donate your share back to the Veggie Blessings Box. Please contact us at least 2 days ahead of the pick-up time. If you miss more than 3 weeks in a row without contacting us your subscription will be cancelled. If you miss the pick up time in the Horsefly location, you can retrieve your box up to 2 days later from our farm location at 3222, Horsefly Rd. 150 Mile House, BC.

Veggie Blessing Box:

We know that inflation has made it hard for a lot of people to enjoy healthy produce each week. To help support those in need in our community we are offering a Veggie Blessing Box to a family in need each week! If you know of a local family that would benefit from a box of produce, or if you yourself are struggling, please submit their/ your name and contact information into our Veggie Blessing Box located on the farm. Each week we will draw a name and the winner will receive a free box of healthy produce equivalent to a full-share box. To prevent waste, if the family or person does not need a full-size box you can indicate that on the submission slip. Each name can only be submitted once per week. Submit names and contact information by coming to our farm at: 3222 Horsefly Rd. 150 Mile House BC and filling out a slip to put into the Veggie Blessing Box. The winner will be drawn 1 day before pick-up each week.

About our Farm:

We are passionate about the Bible, growing food and self-sufficient living! With years of experience in all of the above, we want to help you learn – How to Country. We grow food to share with our local community but along the way we film tutorials, training videos, courses and create other helpful resources to help you grow your own nutrient dense food in a self-sufficient way. Prophecy tells us of a time when we will need to grow our own food and we want everyone to learn these essential skills so that they are not dependent on the grocery store. Our farm is located at 3222 Horsefly Rd. 150 Mile House, British Columbia.

About our Farming Practices:

We at How to Country Farm believe firmly in your bodies optimal health and wellness and therefore our farming is done 100% chemical and pesticide free. We purchased our land in the late fall of 2017 and the land has never been treated with chemicals of any kind since we have owned it. However we do not stop there! Our produce is fed with natural minerals and nutrients found in their whole state such as alfalfa, rock phosphate and more. Our special added nutrients pack our veggies with taste, flavour, colour and what's more nutrients to keep your body healthy. Because our produce is so healthy we very rarely fight with disease in our crops, in fact we have never.

We also prefer to use open-pullinated and heirloom seeds rather than hybrids as we find that hybrid produce simply does not taste as good. Aside from one long english cucumber that we grow, our crop is 100% open-pollinated and or hairloom.

We at How to Country promote a plant-based diet however this does not mean that we do not incorporate animal power on our farm! We farm with animals helping us through the chickens scratching and turning the soil in the fall and early spring, the goats eating the brush, the oxen prepping and weeding the beds and all fertilizing the ground! Each animal on our farm has a name and a special place in helping us produce delicious food and maintain the farm. Animals are out of the garden 90-120+ days before harvest.
