Much of the doctrinal diversity existing among Christian denominations may be traced to the methods of Bible study. The purpose of this series is to highlight a cardinal rule of Bible study, and that is to “begin at the beginning.” The preeminent example of this approach is Jesus Himself; "beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27). If all would follow this rule, no one could conclude that Luke 16:19-31 teaches that the dead go straight to heaven or hell, or that 1 Timothy 4: 4-5 authorizes Christians to eat anything.
