After Jesus’ baptism, a time of severe testing and trial came both to Him and to John the Baptist. Jesus faced Satan’s temptations in the wilderness and not long afterward, John was cast into prison. John’s friends, who should have encouraged him, actually caused him to doubt and his faith was tried. As John the Baptist is a representative of God’s last-days church, we can expect similar experiences of persecution in our own lives.
